{"id":84,"date":"2020-06-13T09:08:18","date_gmt":"2020-06-13T09:08:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fastdiplomasonline.com\/?p=84"},"modified":"2026-07-13T09:59:21","modified_gmt":"2026-07-13T07:59:21","slug":"why-are-immigrant-children-better","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fastdiplomasonline.com\/cy\/pam-mae-plant-mewnfudwyr-yn-well\/","title":{"rendered":"Why are immigrant children better?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Why are immigrant children better?\n<\/div>\n<div>Not just because it&#8217;s smarter.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>According to the Australian broadcasting corporation, recent surveys of students&#8217; academic performance have shown that students from immigrant backgrounds in Australia have better academic performance than their native peers.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>In 2017, the OECD&#8217;s survey of migrants education found that students from the Philippines, China and India were more likely to reach the baseline academic level than those born and raised in Australia.<\/div>\n<div>The baseline academic level is the science, reading and math skills that students exhibit at the age of 15.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>A similar situation occurred in the national literacy and numeracy examination (NAPLAN) in 2016.<\/div>\n<div>Those who do not speak English at home are better at spelling and grammar, writing and computer tests.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>This is not a new phenomenon, nor is it just in Australia.<\/div>\n<div>Research has been done around the world since the 1980s to find out.<\/div>\n<div>Why do immigrant students, in the face of great challenges and new countries in their lives, have been able to do better than local students?<\/div>\n<div>The stereotype of minority students can be traced back to the 1966 U.S. report, which found that asian-americans reached or surpassed white americans in IQ and basic achievement.<\/div>\n<div>The results of the 1980s and 1990s are similar.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The answer is not that immigrants are smarter.<\/div>\n<div>In 1991, U.S. intelligence researcher James Flynn reanalyzed the Asian American IQ study and concluded that IQ is roughly equal to that of north americans.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Similarly, our study of primary school students in China and Vietnam found that although their math scores were higher than those of Australian students, they had the same IQ.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Asian students reportedly spend more time on study than Australian students, which is a good reason for their math, but not all.<\/div>\n<div>The pursuit of good education to get a good job is crucial to the immigrant family and is the key to the problem.<\/div>\n<div>Asian students are far more likely to study for a job than local students.<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Why are immigrant children better?
